In the Fall of 2011, I entered the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education when I co-founded a FIRST high school robotics team. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a New Hampshire based charity founded by inventor Dean Kamen. FIRST leverages countless number of volunteers from all walks of life to promotes STEM education for students through grade 12.

There's no way for me to write down just how rewarding this experience has been for me. I have met numerous dedicated volunteers; watched many students find their voice and passion and then attend college in a STEM field of study; and had the pleasure of having team alumni return to the team to become mentors as they pay-it-forward. Seeing these students grow gives me great hope for the future leaders, inventors, and creator of our world.

The menu on the left has links to FIRST and related sites. You don't have to be a roboticist to be involved in FIRST. Robots are not the final product; the students are. The robots are merely the learning vehicle and the robotic competitions created by FIRST are sports for the mind. Today there are FIRST teams all over the world - maybe you can make a difference and volunteer locally.
